First Post and Discussion

After your literature circle has met face to face. Please summarize your discussion breifly concentrating on the discussion your group had. Also, please post one question you have or statement, that is resounding with you since you began reading this book.  For example, if I were reading The Hunger Games, as question I may have at the middle of the book is why does Katniss feel she has to defy the capitol and "show them?"

Lastly, please post in response to what one other person posted, specifically responding either to their discussion or their "resounding question/statement."

We also talked about what we think will happen in the future, will he make it to the camp or will he die in the end? What if his at home sweetheart Patsy is married to another man.

    1. That is an interesting question Tyler, do you want the main character to make to the camp or not? Don't you think it would be a good twist if something happened and he didnt' make it?

    2. i think that if Patsy is married when he finally makes it home he would be devistated and may live in depression or just remove himself from everyone in his life.

    6. I think Henry does make it back home but I think whoever he is traveling with will die because it would make the story more epic and dramatic.

  6. In our group we talked asked questions like do you think Henry will make it home? Also if he does make it home will his lover Patsy have found someone else when he went missing in action? We also discussed Henry`s journey to get home. We talked about the different places he went, and what he did while there. We also talked about the Resistance. The Resistance is a secret organization that is fighting against the Germans. They help Henry on his way to make it home.

  8. The other day in class we discussed symbols in your novel, please tell about what symbols you saw present in your novel, then discuss what they symbolize. You may want to do some online research about universal symbols that occur in many novels if you think you have a universal symbol (some examples are: gold, animals, and colors such as red).

After you have discussed the symbols, search the internet for symbolism in your book and see how it compares to what your group came up with. You may want to add what you found in your discussion.

Lastly, please comment on at least one other person's post.

Your post needs to be at least 5-7 sentences.

  9. The swastika represents good and literally means good. In the book however it's anything but. Henry fears the symbol in the book because it usually means capture or death. Everyone except germans and their allies hated the swastika because they all hated the nazi regime in real and in the book. Henry comes to know and fear the swastika as it means the opposite of good, death for him which he is trying as hard as possible to fight death and get back home.

  10. the sawstika symbolizes the nazis in WWII. They resemble fear and death. it means an equal armed cross. It resembles are main character because he is scared of them, his riends die by them, he is running from them, and he is fighting against them.

  11. A symbol that I thought of was the Hitler Mustache. It kind of relates to bravery and fear. It relates to bravery for going against Hitler and the Nazis. It relates to fear because you are afraid of Hitler and Nazis. You most likely choose what it mean for you.

    1. I think that is a very interesting symbol. Most of us came up with the German swastika, but Hitler`s mustache is an original symbol.

  12. The swastika is the symbol in our book. It represents the Nazi`s power in WWII. German controls much of Europe in the book. The swastika is a very feared symbol by the allies and the Jews. In the book while Henry is trying to get home he is in constant fear of the Nazis and the swastika.
